Interaction / UI Designer

We are looking for an experienced and creative user experience/interaction designer to be an integral member of our team. You'll work with marketing and engineering to translate user requirements into compelling experiences. You will play a critical role in defining the client experience and user interface, and ensuring that the products and features that get built are easy-to-use and meet the needs of scientists, research foundations and others.

Responsibilities:

• Create wire-frames, mockups, prototypes, and detailed page schematics to guide product decision-making and engineering development
• Define and create site structure, interaction flows, and information architecture
• Work with team on user and task analysis
• Development of new features and functions
• Analyze and create action plans based on usability testing, concept testing, surveys and other research
• Prepare all user interface design documentation

Qualifications:

• 3+ years experience working on web-based products
• Proven ability to create effective user interfaces for large-scale Internet products
• Experience with information architecture and presentation of information, particularly for Scientific Data
• Proven ability to test and iterate design solutions and prototypes to get to the best product out as fast as possible
• Experience with user research methods used to gather qualitative and quantitative data: contextual inquiry, persona development, etc.
• Strong teamwork orientation, and experience working closely with product, marketing and engineering teams
• Excellent written, verbal and diagrammatic communication skills
• Bachelors or Master's degree in design, engineering or related field

Desired but not required:

• Experience working with research scientists
• Proficiency in related web development skills (e.g., CSS, JavaScript, DHTML, AJAX)
• Visual design experience and proficiency
